As the days grow shorter and the weather turns bitter, my mood sours. Since my teens I always get a raging case of Seasonal Affective Disorder which turns into depression. I can feel it now creeping into my life, when I have so much to be grateful for these days and yet I can't control this sadness. Yes, there are people way worse off than me in life and complaining on the internet is just about as lame as it can get, but I feel that to overcome these bouts of sadness and loneliness I need to talk about it. So there you have it, folks.

Anyone have any magic tips that have worked for them to help alleviate SAD?

  1. Maggie: Have you tried light therapy? Check out this website Gail got me this light visor a couple of years ago. You wear the visor for about 15 minutes first thing in the AM for winter light therapy. I'd be happy to lend it to you if you'd like to try it. Let me know. Norma

  2. I heard of the light therapy stuff! I personally try two things. I either dress in bright happy colors, which lifts my mood. I mean, imagine sitting in a yellow long can you stay blue? Or I try to embrace the wintery holidays. Peppermint mochas and pretty, thick mittens and ice skating- it makes the short, dark days worth it!

  3. As we get older we become more aware of the things around us and how they effect us emotionally and physically. I am so sorry you are going through SAD right now. I don't know much about it and professional tips but I believe that surrounding yourself with uplifting things (the company you keep, the things you watch, read and listen to) can make all the difference! ;)

  4. Thank you ladies for your input, I really really appreciate it. I think the light box will be my first line of defense against this issue but you betcha I'm going to up the ante with bright clothes and what (and who) I surround myself with. Unfortunately, as hard and as many times I've tried, I'm without a doubt the world WORST ice skater! darn weak ankles.. but snow shoeing and skiing are nice alternatives ;)

  5. Hey babe, surround yourself with loads of positively and i hope you're feeling better :))
